Choosing The Right Car Cover

Car covers are designed to provide some level of protection to your car and there is a wide array of types and materials to choose from these days, each with its own set of benefits. When it comes choosing the right car cover, here are some factors you should take into consideration:

First, determine the size and think if your car will be parked inside or outside. If inside, the cover's job should be simpler, and you can probably get away with a more inexpensive type. The car cover is principally to keep dust off of the finish. If the car will be parked outside, then you naturally need good protection from weather; but, just as important, the cover should be breathable to allow moisture trapped underneath it to evaporate out into the atmosphere.

Second, you need to consider if the car will be driven everyday or will be covered for a long time. If you expect to be putting the cover on and taking it off every day, you might want one that's relatively light, easy to fold, and compact so as not to take up a lot of trunk space. It is also essential that the inside of the cover be a soft material that will be gentle on the paint. If the car will be covered for long periods of time, then trapped moisture becomes more of an issue since it will have ample time to cause corrosion, mildew, or even clouding of the paint. This is a case where a non-breathable cover could actually cause more harm than good.

Lastly, know your budget. It’s important for you to know if you can afford the car cover design you want. Before deciding to purchase one, be aware of its warranty.
